I Feel Brit-y, Oh So Brit-y

Ed Sheeran could not seal the deal this week but I think he may be perfect next week. Only about 150 points separate the top 2 this week. Fellow Brit Rita Ora takes her third single this year where the other 2 have not gone, the top 10, as it moves 25-8. Her collaboration with Avicii grazed the top 25 recently and her initial single this year,”Your Song”, peaked at #34.

Conversely UK dance outfit Clean Bandit scored a 3rd song in the top 25 this year as the song “I Miss You” with Julia Michaels soars to #18. That brings their total of top 100 songs to 5 over the last 18 months.

The other 2 top 25 entries belong to the Alternative side of music. MGMT moves 38-23 while the aptly titled “Always Ascending” by Scotland’s Franz Ferdinand leaps 74-25.

Alice Merton’s “No Roots” rises to a new peak of #30 almost a year after the song first showed up on a personal chart. It should be among the biggest songs of the year. It built earlier this year through mainland Europe before making inroads in the U.S. in the last couple of months. She is Irish and German by way of Canada and the UK.

Among the 17 new entries in the top 100 there are a number of Brits including Harry Styles (188-54 with “Kiwi”) and Sam Smith of the new guard and Tears For Fears, moving 137-98 with “I Love You But I’m Lost”, and The Fizz (128-80 with “Amen”) from the old guard.
