Beyond Radio is the place where music discovery and music nostalgia collide. It is your one-stop source for playlists, music charts, remembrances and recommendations. Our Podcast and music therapy playlists combine elements of nostalgia and discovery, while my blog entries reflect on our musical past through the lens of my personal charts from decades past. I weave a story that includes the connection between artists, chart facts and personal anecdotes that hopefully conjure a connection to the soundtrack of your own life. The current charts and playlists are updated monthly or bi-monthly (bi-weekly for the BR250) and are curated based on a passionate audience that produce their own personal charts weekly.
As I’ve said previously there is shift that will be taking place with the website, not a shift away from music, but a shift to more recommendations and playlists and a mix of nostalgia and discovery, something I have already been pursuing with the podcast. Today I am sharing a playlist of my top 60 from Sept. 23, 1979. It is a countdown of the top 60 and some other highlights from below the top 60.
For many this will be a mix of nostalgia and discovery as some of these songs may be new to you. Back then I also was doing a top 150 of the week and I had just started college at Boston University a few weeks earlier. It’s a chart that started to see the effect of the Boston radio landscape that was much different than New York City (I grew up in Passaic, NJ). And it also was the first chart that started a new written format.
