________________________________________________

NOAH CYRUS f/ LABRINTH    Make Me (Cry)

Spotify
First single from the younger sister of Miley. Labrinth is a British singer who was the first non-talent show signee to Simon Cowell”s record label. He’s had 10 top 15 singles in the UK. On “Fragile” he teams up with superstar DJ Kygo.

________________________________________________

ALEX VARGAS    Giving Up The Ghost

Spotify
Danish singer showcases some haunting (no pun intended) EDM on ‘Ghost’ and “Higher Love”.

________________________________________________

CAPTAIN CUTS f/ NATEUR    Love Like We Used To

Spotify
STARLEY f/ RYAN RIBACK    Call On Me

Spotify
IMANY f/ FILATON & KARAS    Don’t Be So Shy

Spotify
3 songs that are currently trying to gain radio airplay in North America. Captain Cuts is a production team from L.A. that have produced numerous songs for Grouplove, American Authors, the ubiquitous “Shut Up And Dance” by Walk The Moon and my #2 song of 2014, “Dreaming” by Smallpools among others.

Starley is a female Australian singer who was featured on Odd Mob’s “Into You” a #2 dance hit down under from earlier this year. ‘Call’ has had it’s best success all across Europe so far, it’s best performances are #1 in Sweden and #4 in Norway.

Imany is a French supermodel turned singer who hit #1 in many European territories in 2015 with ‘Shy’. Her first single from 2011, “You Will Never Know” reached #1 in Russia and #2 in Italy.

________________________________________________

The first 5 songs are currently in the Untapped Resources top 10 and the Beyond Radio overall top 100
LITTLE MIX    Shout Out To My Ex
#1/#20 Currently the #1 airplay song in the UK

Spotify
CLEAN BANDIT f/ SEAN PAUL & ANNE-MARIE    Rockabye
#2/#30 And of course the #2 airplay song in the UK

Spotify
YEARS & YEARS    Meteorite
#3/#33 From the movie “Bridget Jones’s Baby”

Spotify
TOVE LO    True Disaster
#7/#86 Second single from her new album “Lady Wood”.

Spotify
LADY GAGA    A-Yo
#8/#89 Surprised this wasn’t chosen as the second single from “Joanne” instead of the somber “Million Reasons”. This sounds like the pop hit that “Perfect illusion” was not.

Spotify

________________________________________________

GO FIGHT    E.L.Y. (Everybody Loves You)
Spotify
This electroscuzz band from Chicago prefer sex over war. The song is a bit too industrial for pop radio but has a great alt-club beat. Thier other song titles may be a little off-putting to some.

________________________________________________

THESE KIDS WEAR CROWNS    K.I.S.S.

Spotify
This Canadian power pop boy band offer up this electro Christmas song. Most of their other songs, including “Van Gogh” have a guitar oriented pop-punk edge, kind of like a poppier Blink 182.

________________________________________________

MARIANAS TRENCH    Who Do You Love

Spotify
Another Canadian pop-punk boy band who have been putting out hits in Canada since 2006. On this latest single they sound more Backstreet Boys than Fall Out Boy. And of course they have a 2011 single “Fallout”. They do like the use of four part harmony.

________________________________________________

BONNIE McKEE    Easy

Spotify
Prolific songwriter who was featured on an R&B pick list in Sept. released an EP in 2015, “Bombastic”, the not great title song a Britney/Fergie lite misstep. She is better represented on “I Want It All” and “Wasted Youth”. She has co-written 8 #1 pop songs including many of Katy Perry’s biggest songs. Even with big songwriting accomplishments she had had a hard time breaking into radio as a vocalist which is a shame.

________________________________________________

LENNO vs. COOKIN’ ON 3 BURNERS f/ KYLIE AULDIST    Mind Made Up

Spotify
After the success of Kungs remix of CO3B’s “This Girl”, this Finnish DJ has taken another one of their songs and given it the updated remix treatment. He’s been put out music since 2013 including “Fever” an R&B/Dance jam that could’ve come from Chris Brown or Taio Cruz. CO3B, formed in 1997 and updates old school jazz styles with a contemporary flare as on “Losin’ Streak”.

Happy Halloween to everyone. This pick list starts out more clubby than poppy as I envision a dark club or house party and strobing lights reflecting off glittery costumes.

________________________________________________

OLIVER f/ SCOTT MELLIS    Electrify
This is an L.A. duo, both Oliver’s, that specialize in electrofunk, techno and disco. The insistent bass of this song is a familiar element in their music.

Spotify

Fast Forward/Control
They often go completely instrumental or sparingly on vocals. These songs should put you in a club mood.

________________________________________________

ANTONIO GIACCA    Down Like The River/Sensation
2 recent singles from another L.A. based dance artist.

Spotify

________________________________________________

NORMAN DORAY    All In
My husband discovered this on Sirius/XM’s BPM and as usual shared it with me via screenshot. This French DJ, musician and producer has been a prolific artist and remixer for the last 10 years .

Spotify
Street Sounds/Falling

While many of the songs I previewed have a certainly club feel, these 3 most recent singles sound more radio ready and not carbon copies of each other.

________________________________________________

PENGUIN PRISON    Show Me The Way
NY singer, musician, remixer and producer Chris Glover goes under the moniker Penguin Prison. This is his effervescent new single. On this and another song from his new album appropriately titled “Lost In New York’, “Never Gets Old” we start veering into alternative electro-pop territory.

Spotify

Calling Out
He’s been kicking around since 2011 and this was the 2014 single that first impacted me.

________________________________________________

ROOSEVELT    Belong
Along the same vein this sole German artist Marius Lauber dabbles in electro-pop with shades of indie rock while staying in a dance groove on his debut album. I first became acquainted with him earlier this year when his song “Colours” reached #2 on my personal chart. Others like non-album recent single “Teardrops” and his debut single from 2013 “Sea” (which is also featured on the new album) could follow suit.

________________________________________________

ANNE-MARIE    Alarm
Now let’s move to a couple of ladies who are seeing international pop radio play. Anne-Marie is a British singer and “Alarm”, which has seen international success this summer, has just entered the U.S. pop top 50. She is a featured artist on a trio of songs that have charted in the last 2 years. Rudimental’s “Rumour Mill” from 2015, Illy’s “Catch 22” (currently #18 in Australia) and the just released new single by Clean Bandit “Rockabye”, already a top 10 in the UK.

Spotify

________________________________________________

NEIKED f/DYO   Sexual
Another British singer is the focal point of this single from the Swedish producer Victor Radstrom. This has reached the top 40 in many European territories, including the top 10 in the UK. In recent weeks it has started impacting on the Beyond Radio 250, moving 273-169-115 in the last 3 weeks. The song starts it’s pursuit of U.S. airplay this week.

BEYOND RADIO Rhythmic Pop/Dance picks Oct. 11

ROYKSOPP f/ SUSANNE SUNDFOR Never Ever

Norwegian electronic duo whose first release was in 1998. They have experimented with different styles of electronic music over the years. This is pretty straightforward EDM pop. Their biggest international success was with the song “Do It Again” featuring Swedish singer Robyn in 2014

https://open.spotify.com/track/7JPDtDo1df4eJFvdOgUDni

The Girl And The Robot

This was their biggest Norwegian hit, a #2 from 2009, also featuring Robyn.

FENECH-SOLER Kaleidoscope

Another duo, this time from the UK. The name comes from the full surname of original member Daniel Fenech-Soler, who has since left the group.

https://open.spotify.com/track/5jGPPNwlVGJjouqRZxZFos

Stop And Stare

One of their early singles from 2010.

BLACK DYLAN f/ WA’FANDE & NUPLEX Hey Stranger

I guess the theme of the day is duo’s. From the home of Lukas Graham, Copenhagen’s Black Dylan are steeped in 60’s neo-soul but with a contemporary flare as evidenced by this boppy single.

https://open.spotify.com/track/4f0hEFrke4qz2NetyvLL89

Don’t Wanna Be Alone/Get Up Child

Vocalist Wa’fande is a star in Denmark. His parents instilled a life of music (his Danish mother sang with Bulgarian choirs while his dad was a blues singer who lived in different locations between Africa and the Middle East).

KAYE Honey

Let’s now go in a solo female direction. Trying to balance her love for Destiny’s Child and Nine Inch Nails, NYC’s Charlene Kaye, of the indie band San Fermin has come up with alt-pop gem here for her solo project (sounding like neither of those artists).

https://open.spotify.com/track/2lJWX4dVl6LHjLtYlY4Eit

SAN FERMIN Jackrabbit

This band is the brainchild of Ellis Ludwig-Leone and their music style really runs from indie-pop to quasi-Americana and anywhere inbetween. Kaye is the featured vocalist on this track. She was also in an all female Guns ‘N Roses cover band, Guns ‘n Hoses.

DUA LIPA Blow Your Mind

British singer-songwriter and model of Albanian descent. She has released a number of singles in Europe over the last 2 years and her full length album is scheduled for release in Feb. of 2017. This is currently #1 on the Beyond Radio Untapped Resources Pop chart.

https://open.spotify.com/track/7kJlTKjNZVT26iwiDUVhRm

Hotter Than Hell/Be The One

Both of these have seen major radio success in Europe and Australia. She has not released a single in the U.S. as of yet.

CHARLIE Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

Second single from Canadian artist Charlie. Her song “Ghosts” reached the top 25 adult pop chart in Canada last year.

https://open.spotify.com/track/4GwOxWeu4p4mTrOWN1ykTM

LINDSEY STIRLING f/ RIVERS CUOMO & LECRAE Don’t Let This Feeling Fade

To finish off we have violinist, performance artist and dancer Lindsey Stirling who made the quarter finals of America’s Got Talent in 2012. She dabbles in all styles of music and is currently charting on the HotAC chart with the song “Something Wild” featuring Andrew McMahon and the Wilderness. This foray into the current pop/dance sound features Christian rapper/R&B artist Lecrae and the lead singer of Weezer.

BEYOND RADIO Rhythmic Pop/Dance picks Sept. 17

KUNGS f/ JAMIE N COMMONS  Don’t You Know

With “This Girl” currently rising in the U.S. pop top 20 this sounds like another hit for the French DJ.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf-FLiO4p3c

https://open.spotify.com/track/38lpMsuxzoOOvesBvNFZpa

GROUP 1 CREW                Power

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Umk7qBBV-dM

https://open.spotify.com/track/6Z4OTlYKfhyvf3oI0EyZzI

Christian hip hop/pop group that has had 20 singles (3 of those #1’s) and 5 albums since 2007. This is the title track from their most recent album.

Wake Me Up (Amnesia)

This was their most current hit in 2015.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvYAh6wvR-o

CARLY RAE JEPSEN          Higher

Jepsen was the third place finisher in the fifth season of Canadian Idol and of course had the ubiquitous “Call Me Maybe”. She has been having solid success in her homeland but has struggled to gain airplay in the U.S. Her 2015 “Emotion” CD was a critical darling. This is from her recent “Emotion Side B” EP.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fd_EJSHchyM

Run Away With Me

As evidence of the critical acclaim. This song ranked as the #11 single of 2015 in the Village Voice and the #49 single of the year in Rolling Stone. It did not gain radio over even with high accolades but interestingly on the Beyond Radio charts (fueled by real people’s personal music charts) the song reached #9 and ranks at #28 on Beyond Radio for my annual music party tracking year which goes from June-2015-May 2016. The roll out of her CD was blamed for some of the problems with it first being released in Japan and then in Canada 2 months later, followed by Europe a month after that.

Making The Most of The Night

This one reached my top 30 earlier this year.

SIGALA f/ JOHN NEWMAN & NILE RODGERS      Give Me Your Love

British DJ and remixer has had 4 UK top 10’s in the past 2 years, starting with the Jackson Five sampled (ABC) “Easy Love” which reached #1.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ze6H75NCUs8

https://open.spotify.com/track/4CWZOyb9YHIH06yfsvY6k1

Say You Do f/ IMANI WILLIAMS & DJ FRESH

His third single hit #5.

JOHN NEWMAN              Cheating/Losing Sleep

Like Rick Astley, British singer Newman has boyish looks and a earthy soul voice. “Cheating was one of his UK top 10’s from 2013. Both of these songs reached #1 on my chart.

BEYOND RADIO Rhythmic Pop/Dance picks Sept. 2

RIZZLE KICKS      Always Late

According to Spotify they are responsible for bringing back the flower power hip hop of the late 80’s to the charts (In England at least). They specialize in non-confrontational and humorous pop-rap.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_sNJ0ODQFU

https://open.spotify.com/track/4azXMs0k1JneLQcIDEsuK6

After this first single in 2001 that did not chart the duo has gone on to reach the UK top 20 6 times.

AUTOHEART       Possibility

This British band was formed in 2007, originally called The Gadsdens after lead singer Jody Gadsden. This July single release, preceding the late August debut of their second album “I Can Build A Fire”, has an infectious bongo and synth driven undercurrent.

HEY VIOLET         Brand New Moves

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tgvLDZ7VCb0

https://open.spotify.com/track/2pDq8Bt5wWk7NTh2IQmxoP

L.A. based co-ed foursome that formed as an all girl group in middle school in 2008, formerly known as Cherri Bomb, releasing one CD in 2012. As Cherri Bomb they were definitely a rock band and supported bands like Bush, Foo Fighters (they did a cover of “The Pretender”) and Staind on tour. With the departure of Julia Pearce they have gone in a decidedly pop/alternative direction.

ALLIE X  All The Rage

Canadian singer-songwriter who now calls L.A. her base camp. She has released 8 singles in the last 3 years but has not made much of a radio impact. This would sound great on pop radio.

THE AVALANCHES f/ DANNY BROWN & MF DOOM         Frankie Sinatra

Australian electronic duo whose first release was in 1997 and have had only 2 full length cd’s, one in 2000 and the other released in early July. This is a very polarizing song and video but I think just quirky enough to become a left field pop hit. It did make the Australian top 40 and even hit #33 on the U.S. rock chart.

WHO IS FANCY f/ ARIANA GRANDE & MEGHAN TRAINOR             Boys Like You

Arkansas native, Jake Hagood, grew up on country and Christian music but opted for pure pop. He had a moderate hit last year with “Goodbye”, reaching #29 on the pop chart. This fun ditty didn’t chart in the U.S., even with the superstar help of Grande & Trainor, but did reach the top 30 in New Zealand.

REDONE f/ ENRIQUE IGLESIAS, R. CITY, SHAGGY & SERAYAH        Don’t You Need Somebody

Another new artist being aided by some superstar heft. Every summer needs a Latin-tinged laidback song, right? This fits the bill.

FRANCIS LUNG Dance 4 Sorrow

UK artist whose debut single is a slice of jangly tropical disco, another perfect for a summer beach party but a very different vibe than Redone.

Another UK X Factor alumnus (I did not plan that!). 12th place in the 2015 cycle. Duo from Ghana currently in the UK top 25. Definitely a summer sounding song with a little steel drum for added effect.
