POS/ARTIST/SONG/BR250
1 JESSIE WARE Please 4
The songstress wasted no time replacing herself in the top 5 on the BR250. This new single will be included on the deluxe version of the album “What’s Your Pleasure?” in June called “Platinum Pleasure”. All of the top 3 trending songs have debuted in the top 25 on the BR250 this week. “Your Power” is Eilish’s third preview into her upcoming second album, “Happier Than Ever”, scheduled for a late July release. While Eilish talks about personal power, Coldplay is looking outward with their latest single.
2 BILLIE EILISH Your Power 20
3 COLDPLAY Higher Power 23
4 CHVRCHES He Said She Said 12
The next 3 songs come from different areas of the Alternative universe. Chvrches delivers reliable synth-pop, Wolf Alice return to the harder side of their sound with “Smile” and 26 years in, the Chemical Brothers continue to burn up the dancefloor on this simmering track. Their pinnacle for me was “Galvanize” in 2005, peaking at #3.
5 WOLF ALICE Smile 25
6 THE CHEMICAL BROTHERS The Darkness That You Fear 49
7 LITTLE MIX Confetti 56
Hit worthy Brits, both emanating from music competition shows, hold the next 2 spots. Since the release of the #1 “Cannonball” in 2011, the girl group Little Mix has churned out 26 top 20 singles in the UK. They were crowned the winners of the inaugural X Factor. Similarly in 2002, Will Young won the first Pop Idol crown and has laned 12 titles in the UK top 20, the last one was “Jealousy” in 2011.
8 WILL YOUNG Daniel 64
9 PINK All I Know So Far 70
Though the former 2 artists have had impressive careers in the UK, Pink is truly an international superstar. Her profile has been front and center over the past 6 months with collaborations with Keith Urban, Rag ‘n Bone Man and her daughter. On May 21 the documentary film “All I Know So Far” and the corresponding live album will be released. Her song that performed the best on my chart was my #2 song of the 2013/14 cycle, the ever so fun “Walk Of Shame”. It spent 8 weeks at #2 on my hcart, though both “Raise Your Glass’ and “Glitter in the Air” made it to #1.
10 LITTLE SIMZ Introvert 41
The British rapper and singer makes a nice splash onto the BR250, moving 276-41 this week, increasing her chart totals from 5 to 15. The instrumentation on this song has the feel of a James Bond theme.
11 GARBAGE No Gods No Masters 78
The seventh album of the same name by the ‘90s era Alt kingpins, will be released next month. The title song is their second to reach the top 100 with the lead track “The Men Who Rule The World” moving into the top 30 at #28. From Wikipedia, “This is our seventh record, the significant numerology of which affected the DNA of its content: the seven virtues, the seven sorrows, and the seven deadly sins,” singer Shirley Manson explained, describing No Gods No Masters as “a critique of the rise of capitalist short-sightedness, racism, sexism and misogyny across the world.”[
12 DOJA CAT f/ SZA Kiss Me More 8
This song supposedly interpolates Olivia Newton-John’s “Physical”, but I have a hard time hearing it. Dua Lipa’s “Physical” also interpolates that song.
13 RINA SAWAYAMA f/ ELTON JOHN Chosen Family 50
Elton John is an unabashed fan of Sawayama and lends his pipes to this heartfelt ballad about finding your tribe, a true LGBTQ anthem.
14 NOEL GALLAGHER’S HIGH FLYING BIRDS We’re On Our Way Now 112
The former Oasis brother has a compilation album coming out next month, celebrating this band’s 10th anniversary. In 2015 their song “The Ballad Of The Mighty I” was my #1 song of the year.
15 AFROJACK & DAVID GUETTA Hero 139
This collaboration between the Dutch and French producers sounds very 2012 to me, not necessarily a bad place to be.
16 ONEREPUBLIC Run 140

POS/ARTIST/SONG
1 LIL NAS X Montero (Call Me By Your Name)
Good for Lil Nas X not shying away from his sexuality on this tune, the sub-title a reference the 2017 LGBTQ movie and 2007 novel. The song debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 and has gone to #1 all around the world. The video is quite a thing, though I suppose no worse that Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion. I’ll let you find it on your own.
2 OLIVIA RODRIGO Deja Vu
Rodrigo stills seems to be angry at her ex but at least the song isn’t a complete rehash of “Drivers License”. I like the interesting instrumentation and it feels like because of that it could have more staying power, at least for me. ‘License’ moved up and down my chart very quickly.

POS/ARTIST/SONG
1 WOLF ALICE The Last Man On Earth
In a big surprise to me Wolf Alice crash onto the BR250 at #16 on the strength of 23 adds. This is a much more subdued song then their biggest hit, 2014’s “Moaning Lisa Smile”.
2 BRUNO MARS, ANDERSON.PAAK & SILK SONIC Leave The Door Open
Hot off their Grammy performance this retro homage also debuts high on the BR250 at #25. Fully 12 titles debut in the top 100 from outside the top 250 this week and 74 songs make their debut on the BR250. Not sure if that is a record but it certainly seems like a spring cleaning.
3 JOEL CORRY f/ RAYE & DAVID GUETTA Bed
The third out of the box entry on the BR250 at #30, this track could follow Corry’s “Head & Heart” into the top 10. He was featured on the British version of “Jersey Shore” called “Geordie Shore” between 2011-13.
4 DUA LIPA We’re Good
I was disappointed that Lipa did not win Album of the Year at the Grammys but at least she won Pop Vocal Album. I thought this could compete for #1 on the BR250 this week but it only managed to reach #5. “Drivers License” is already losing ground so on the next chart it’s anyone’s guess.
5 JUSTIN BIEBER Hold On
6 NICK JONAS This Is Heaven
Two more out the box entries at #55 and #58 on the BR250, both songs reference heaven, for Bieber it’s not too far away and for Jonas, he has found it. Both have a light groove with Bieber winning the race at radio so far. Jonas is also on the Trending chart at #36 with “Spaceman”. He also just got some exposure announcing the Oscar nominations with his wife this morning.
7 MANCHESTER ORCHESTRA Bed Head
The word bed gets a second appearance in the top 10 on Trending and I’m sure the large bed Cardi B was upon at last night’s Grammy awards is trending somewhere else. This is an excellent, percolating track from the Atlanta band’s upcoming sixth album “The Million Masks Of God”, due for release at the end of April. Tis will likely be the band’s second song to reach my top 10. “I’ve Got Friends” reached #2 on my chart in early 2010.
8 AVA MAX My Head & My Heart
This song is currently in the Pop top 15 in the States and top 5 in Britain. 20 years ago the song “Around The World (La La La La La)”, from which this song was born, also made the Pop top 15 and was a major international hit.
9 STEPS & MICHELLE VISAGE Heartbreak In This City
Visage has been a part of Rupaul’s Drag Race franchise since 2011 and 30 years ago was a member of the girl group trio Seduction, who scored 4 top 25 singles on the Hot 100 including the #2 “Two To Make It Right”. Debuting at #68 on the BR250 this week, this could be Steps 4th top 25 on the chart.
10 ZARA LARSSON Look What You’ve Done
Last week Larsson released the album “Poster Girl” which includes 6 singles she released from 2018 through early this year. Debuting at #56 this album track has performed better on the BR250 than all the singles except “Ruin My Life” which reached #42. She also appears at #95 Trending with “Need Someone”.
11 ELLA HENDERSON & TOM GRENNAN Let’s Go Home Together
Another top 5 UK track, both artists now have 2 top 40 hits on the BR250. Henderson peaked at #38 last year with “Take Care Of Me” and Grennan moves up to #23 this week with “Little Bit Of Love”.
12 PAUL WOOLFORD f/ AMBER MARK Heat
13 PURPLE DISCO MACHINE & MOSS KENA & THE KNOCKS Fireworks
These two DJ/producers have come off a pair of big international hits. Woolford reached #57 on the BR 250 with “Looking For Me” last fall and Purple Disco Machine’s “Hypnotized” has been in and out of the BR250 numerous times over the last year, reaching as high as #49. Both have made the European top 25.
14 BEBE REXHA Sacrifice
15 CONAN GRAY Overdrive
These two songs are currently getting traction at Pop radio. Rexha started out as a songwriter and has reached the top 10 on the Hot 100 three times via collaborations with G-Eazy, David Guetta, and Florida Georgia Line. Gray started out as a YouTube personality and has been improving over the last three BR250 entries, this being his first to hit the top 100, currently #72.

POS/ARTIST/SONG
1 ROYAL BLOOD Typhoons
While “Trouble’s Coming” sits atop the Rock airplay chart in the States, this second groovy single by the band makes a nice move from 172-11 on the BR250. Hungary seems to like the song, it made the top 10 there at #8. They also made the Trending 100 at #84 collaborating with Run The Jewels on “The Ground Below”.
2 FOO FIGHTERS Waiting On A War
The third single from “Medicine At Midnight” reached the Rock airplay top 10 this week while the album debuts at #3 on the Billboard 200. The blistering “No Son of Mine” lands at #13 Trending while both songs move into the BR250 top 10 at #6 and #8. A third song, “Making A Fire” sneaks in at #87 this week.
3 CLEAN BANDIT f/ IANN DIOR Higher
This song debuts on the BR250 at #40 this week. Dior just came off a #1 song with 24KGoldn’s “Mood” and Clean Bandit’s previous “Tick Tock” went to #30 on the BR250 and #2 on the airplay chart in the UK. This song was co-written by Dan Smith, the lead singer of Bastille.
4 OLIVIA RODRIGO Driver’s License
This juggernaut moved up to #1 on the BR250 this week. Part of the bedroom pop movement spearheaded by Billie Eilish, the song references her true-life circumstances, of which Sabrina Carpenter (at #30 trending with “Skin”) is a part of.
5 JESSIE WARE Remember Where You Are
The seventh single from Ware’s album “What’s Your Pleasure” returns to the BR250 at #44. The sultry tune is one of nine from the album that have appeared on the BR250, 5 of those making the top 50. The album appeared on a myriad of best of 2020 lists including Rolling Stone (#9 of the year) and USA Today (#3).
6 NATHAN EVANS, 220 KID & BILLEN TED Wellerman
A year ago, I doubt anyone would think a 19th century sea shanty song would reach #2 in the UK (well in the UK anything is possible). Evans started posting his versions of these songs on TikTok and a movement was born.
7 KINGS OF LEON The Bandit
Well, this month rock is not dead with 3 songs in the Trending top 10. The song is on the cusp on entering the Alternative airplay top 10 with Weezer’s “All My Favorite Songs” (#18) right on its heels.
8 ARLO PARKS Hope
This British singer-songwriter’s retro Soul has brought 5 titles to the BR250 over the last year, including AAA charting “Hurt” which peaked at #46 on the BR250. “Hope” bows at #84 this week on that list, with the song “Caroline” five places ahead at #79. Wiki also attributes bedroom pop to her genre list.
9 LONDON GRAMMAR Lose Your Head
Fitting into a similar lane, the ethereal dream pop of this trio, brings a third song to the BR250 top 30 in the last six months. Their album “Californian Soil’ is scheduled for release in early April.
10 SZA Good Day
More dreaminess here. The R&B songstress just made the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 for the third time (and first solo single) last week with this song. She had previously reached #7 collaborating with Kendrick Lamar on with “All The Stars” in 2018 and in 2017 with Maroon Five on “What Lovers Do”.
11 SILK CITY f/ ELLIE GOULDING New Love
Silk City is the superstar DJ duo of Diplo and Mark Ronson. In late 2018 they reached #3 on the BR250 with the Dua Lipa sung “Electricity”.
12 YEARS & YEARS It’s A Sin
This week’s trending songs are heavy on the chill (and rock). This is a stripped down version of the Pet Shop Boys hit. Lead singer Olly Alexander is the lead character the TV series of the same name, depicting ‘80s era gay life.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/# ON BR250/POINTS
1 ED SHEERAN Afterglow 10 1887.05
Supposedly this sparse acoustic ballad is not the first single from his next album, just a one off for his fans. That didn’t stop it from going to #2 in the UK and in the top 20 on pop radio in the U.S.
2 JUSTIN BIEBER Anyone 25 1833.7
Bieber is pulling a Grande with 3 songs in the U.S. Pop top 20, 2 of those in the top 5 this week. This latest track is one I can give some time to. A far cry from the atrociousness of “Yummy”. This one has a light retro groove.
3 KYLIE MINOGUE & DUA LIPA Real Groove 12 1585.35
Dua Lipa’s vocal on this is really only a slight enhancement to the song, an unassuming disco nugget.
4 HARRY STYLES Treat People With Kindness 41 1512.3
I’m in love with the video to this song and feel it should be the motto for 2021. Last winter the peaked at #141 on te BR250 and this week jumps in at #41, giving Styles a 6th top 50 on the chart from the album “Fine Line”. The album ended up as the #4 album of the year on the Billboard 200.
5 FOO FIGHTERS No Son Of Mine 42 1495.7
After the left field “Shame Shame”, Dave Grohl treats his audience to a solid rocker that stampedes through it’s 3 and half minutes. The background vocals provide a certain eeriness. For a nearly 30 year old band, they hardly ever disappoint.
6 TAYLOR SWIFT f/ HAIM No Body, No Crime 16 1224.7
A murder ballad from Taylor Swift. After her trail of ex-boyfriends, it doesn’t surprise me. Nor does the fact that she has 5 songs in the Trending 100 this month.
7 KINGS OF LEON The Bandit 66 1105.4
It’s been more than 4 years since the last Kings Of Leon album. Sounds like just where they left off. A rootsy alt-rocker with that distinctive voice.
8 THE WEEKND Save Your Tears 2 1050.05
This song has me going ho hum. This seems like a song that will stall out quickly.
9 SZA Good Days 105 856.9
This trance-y song features Jacob Collier who is up for album of the year at the Grammys. He has already won 4 Grammys for arranging including a whacked-out version of the “Flintstones” theme in 2017.
10 GWEN STEFANI Let Me Reintroduce Myself 14 843.15
Kind of an adorable, tongue in cheek song, especially the video.
11 TAYLOR SWIFT Willow 6 777.95
12 COLDPLAY Flags 89 769.1
The latest non-energetic single from Coldplay is said to be, according to Wikipedia, a bonus track on the Japanese version of the album.
13 PAUL MCCARTNEY Find My Way 53 735.2
McCartney’s album McCartney III, on which he played all the instruments, was a UK #1 and Stateside #2 album. His fellow Beatles band-mate, Ringo Starr, is also on the trending chart this month at #26.
14 TEENAGE WRIST Taste Of Gasoline 49 721.8
Tis L.A. alt-rock duo has had a good run on the BR250 in the last 18 months. This is their 4th song to reach the top 100 and second to reach the top 50. They just released another single “Yellowbelly”. ‘Gasoline’, while still featuring a shoegaze gauze, is the most pop-oriented song by them that I have heard.
15 CHEVELLE Self Destructor 170 592.8
This Illinois band has amassed 24 Rock top 40 songs since 1999 with 5 #1’s and 14 top 10’s.
16 MILEY CYRUS f/ DUA LIPA Prisoner 1 588.95
17 CELESTE Love Is Back 174 574.6

POS/ARTIST/SONG/POS ON BR250/POINTS
1 MILEY CYRUS f/ DUA LIPA Prisoner 6 2233.75
Who didn’t think that this collaboration would top the trending chart? It’s already #1 in airplay in the UK and in the Pop top 25 in the States. Cyrus is going on 4 months at the top of the BR250 with “Midnight Sky” and Lipa is by far the biggest artist here this year. With Miley’s album release, 5 titles make the Trending Top 100. Her duet with Billy Idol, “Night Crawling”, comes in at #9 and another ‘80s icon, Joan Jett, shows up with her at #82 with “Bad Karma”.
2 RINA SAWAYAMA Lucid 65 1113.6
A new addition to the deluxe version of her album “Sawayama” that was released on November 25. A strong out the box debut on the BR250 at #65 means the song has potential to surpass “XS” and reach the top 25. That song peaked at #32 earlier this year. This one is a pure pop nugget produced by Bloodpop who also was behind Lady Gaga’s “Chromatica”.
3 BILLIE EILISH Therefore I Am 12 1055.3
#2 in both the UK and the U.S. This is her fourth top 20 in 2020.
4 THE WEEKND Save Your Tears 16 1026.85
He is definitely in an ‘80s mode on this synth-y track. Top 30 airplay on both sides of the Atlantic. But can any song of his keep them from playing “Blinding Lights”?
5 FOO FIGHTERS Shame Shame 7 1014.45
A different direction and a cool vibe to this #1 Rock tune from their upcoming tenth studio album.
6 BRITNEY SPEARS Swimming In The Stars 87 949.7
Interesting that Spears re-issued her 2016 album “Glory” twice this year. “Mood Ring” made it to #43 on the BR250 earlier in 2020. This one was released to coincide with her 39th birthday. Another track “Matches”, is a collaboration with Backstreet Boys.
7 LIAM GALLAGHER All You’re Dreaming Of 73 902.5
A charity single for Action For Children UK, timed well as the Oasis song “Stop Crying Your Heart Out” was just a UK top 10 by the BBC Children In Need Allstars. Around since 1980, the BBC charity has been releasing a single every year since 1985.
8 PALE WAVES Change 44 878.8
This is the most straightforward Pop song the UK group has done. This has bested the #89 peak of 2018’s “Eighteen”.
9 MILEY CYRUS f/ BILLY IDOL Night Crawling 101 854.3
10 MARIAH CAREY f/ ARIANA GRANDE & JENNIFER HUDSON Oh Santa! 105 846.55
From Mariah’s Christmas special, I don’t think this can usurp “All I Want For Christmas Is You”, which is #1 on the Hot 100 again and probably would have been #1 every year if the Billboard rules allowed it all along.
11 THE BLEACHERS f/ BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Chinatown 68 821.25

November 2020
POS/ARTIST/SONG/POS ON BR250/POINTS
1 ARIANA GRANDE Positions 7 3175.35
No surprise that Grande dominates the November trending chart as “Positions” debuted at #1 on the Hot 100 and the UK singles chart. In addition, the album also topped the chart in both countries. 7 of the tracks from the album also make the trending chart though I feel she performed better with “Thank You, Next”.
2 HARRY STYLES Golden 8 3135.25
5 singles in and Styles is still breaking into the BR250 top 10, the song moved 124-8 on the current chart. 4 of those have reached the top 10 (“Falling” only peaking at #16), while a sixth track, “Treat People With Kindness”, spent some time on the BR250 earlier this year as well. “Golden” is top Pop 20 in the States and top 10 in airplay in the UK.
3 LITTLE MIX Sweet Melody 17 2120.6
The third single from the just released #3 UK album “Confetti” gives the girl group their best showing on the BR250 this year, debuting at #17. The song is their 16th UK top 10 single since 2011.
4 STEPS Something In Your Eyes 33 1702.6
The title track to the UK co-ed group, “What The Future Holds” slides from its peak of #18 on the BR250 this week while the third preview into the album debuts at #33. During their initial run on the UK charts between 1997-2001 they scored 14 UK top 10’s, 7 of those reaching the top 2.
5 BRING ME THE HORIZON Teardrops 79 1142.7
These alt-metal lads just came in at #5 on the UK album chart with “Post Human: Survival Horror”, supposedly the first of 4 EP’s to feature the post human moniker. The 4 preview singles all have reached the BR250’s top 100 with the sonic stew “Parasite Eve” making it all the way to #12.
6 MEDUZA f/ DERMOT KENNEDY Paradise 104 948.6
Irish singer Dermot Kennedy follows his UK top 5 and European top 20 single “Giants” a collaboration with this Italian production team. Last year Meduza had 2 songs make the top 50 on the BP250, “Piece of Your Heart” at #42 and “Lose Control” featuring Becky Hill at #28. Hill herself moves in the BR250 top 50 this week with “Space”, up 104-46.
7 KYLIE MINOGUE I Love It 54 1407.1
Superstar Minogue debuted at #1 in the UK and in Australia (and #25 in the States) with her fifteenth album “Disco”. Both “Say Something” and “Magic” are still in the top 25 on the main chart, with “I Love It” clocking in at #54 in it’s first week in the top 100.
8 JAX JONES f/ AU/RA I Miss You 31 1771.65
The English DJ has his best showing in 2020 with his new single. He has reached as high as #12 on the BR250 with last year’s “Play”.
9 DUA LIPA & ANGELE Fever 117 855.4
As if Lipa needed another song to add to her 2020 war chest, this is the tenth song to make the BR250 this year. The song reached #2 in France and #1 in Angele’s homeland of Belgium.
10 PALOMA FAITH Gold 124 834.8
Faith’s fifth album “Infinite Things” was released this past Friday. The lead single “Better Than This” has been in the BR250 top 100 for last 2 months, peaking at #55. This mid-tempo song puts her in Sia territory.
11 ARIANA GRANDE 34 + 35 141 789.45
Racy is the best way to describe this song that is following “Positions” up the Pop top 30 in the U.S.
12 GORILLAZ f/ BECK The Valley Of The Pagans 102 951.6
Finally, a fun and funky song from Damon Alban’s “Song Machine, Season One: Strange Timez”. They have been releasing a single a month (except March) this year, corresponding with their web series.
13 THE AVALANCHES f/ LEON BRIDGES & ALAN PARSON PROJECT Interstellar Love 167 705.2
This Australian electronic duo may be even more left field than the Gorillaz. Their soundscape is all over the place. This song which samples “Eye In The Sky” is certainly one of their most accessible offerings.
14 SYSTEM OF A DOWN Protect the Land 169 703.35
15 years is a long hiatus but this Armenian-American metal band released 2 new songs in responses to the war that is being waged in Armenia this year.
15 HOT CHIP f/ JARVIS COCKER Straight To The Morning 89 1060
Jubilant disco is what you will find of the UK synth band’s latest single. Earlier this year they peaked at #40 on the BR250 with “Positive”.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/POS ON BR250/POINTS
1 ROYAL BLOOD Trouble’s Coming 8 2851.6
Whoever thought Royal Blood would add a dance edge to their bluesy rock music? Well here it is, and it is quite groovy. They were trying to achieve a Daft Punk meets rock vibe and I think they found it. By blasting onto the BR250 this week at #8 it seems likely that they will surpass the #6 peak of 2017’s “Lights Out”.
2 KYLIE MINOGUE Magic 13 2495.85
The other out of the box BR250 splash (#13 debut) comes from Queen Kylie. The second single from the upcoming “Disco” album would keep me on the dance floor after the Royal Blood song. It has a wonderfully happy groove. This has been a great year for dance-pop. This week Dua Lipa tops my personal chart with “Hallucinate”, the first in that genre in a long time.
3 SHAWN MENDES Wonder 71 1198.15
This new single has a grand Sam Smith-ian chorus and is quite introspective from a lyrical standpoint. It’s already top 20 Pop in the States and top 10 in the UK. For some reason, his voice has always somewhat irked me. He has only made my top 100 once.
4 AC/DC Shot In The Dark 78 1144.15
It has been 5 years since AC/DC’s last release and Rock radio was clamoring for it. It debuted at #5 on that chart last week. Funny, in an interview with Mike Kerr of Royal Blood, he talked about AC/DC and their connecting of rock and dance music. The band’s 17th album “Power Up” will be released in November. This song also marks the return of vocalist Brian Johnson.
5 SAM SMITH Diamonds 18 2238.65
Oh look, Sam Smith right here. He’s also right behind Mendes on the Mediabase Pop airplay chart right now. I’ve always been hot and cold with Smith but on this dance track I’m liking what I hear. This has already surpassed the BR250 peak of his 3 other singles over the last year. His third album “Love Goes” is scheduled for release at the end of the month.
6 DAVID GUETTA f/ SIA Let’s Love 9 2822.65
This duo has teamed up on numerous tracks over the years including the smash “Titanium”. I hear shades of A-Ha’s “Take On Me” but I don’t see a songwriting credit. The song is currently top 10 in the UK and top 15 in Australia.
7 LADY GAGA 911 29 1860.2
The frenetic techno pulse of the third single from Chromatica fits the theme of the song quite well. I have a different take on the song now that I understand it. The song talks about her relationship with taking an antipsychotic drug, thus the lyric “pop a 911”.
8 TRAVIS SCOTT f/ YOUNG THUG & M.I.A. Franchise 102 958.15
Scott made Billboard history with this song, it being his third to debut atop the Hot 100 in less than one year. It made it with one week to go. “Highest In The Room debuted at #1 on Oct. 19, 2019 and this on Oct. 10, 2020. In-between the song “The Scotts” with Kid Cudi was the third.
9 JUSTIN BIEBER f/ CHANCE THE RAPPER Holy 57 1348.35
The gospel influenced track actually features gospel artist Kirk Franklin in the choir at the end of the song. It is an across the globe hit, already top 5 on the Hot 100, Australia and in the UK plus top 15 across Europe.
10 BASTILLE Survivin’ 100 968
This UK band does not typically get a song on Pop radio in the States out of the box but it is already charting at Pop, Hot AC, AAA and Alternative. The thing that makes this song unique is the saxophone line that almost seems out of place.
11 OF MONSTERS AND MEN Visitor 24 2111.35
This Icelandic band has had an impressive run on Alternative radio over the last decade, landing 10 songs on that chart. This driving electro-pop song becomes their first top reach the top 25 on the BR250. In 2019 “Alligator” peaked at #36 and “Wars” topped out at #32.
12 BLACKPINK Lovesick Girls 122 829.1
This single co-written by David Guetta is the fourth to make the BR250. 2 of those are still on the chart, “Ice Cream” at #44 and “How Like That” #147 after a #20 peak.
13 KYGO & DONNA SUMMER Hot Stuff 36 1656.75
I like this re-working much better than the recent Tina Turner remix.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/POS ON BR250/POINTS
1 MILEY CYRUS Midnight Sky 1 3274.85
There was no touching Miley on the trending chart this week as the song also goes to #1 on the BR250 this week. The pulsating dance-pop preview to her 7th album “She Is Miley Cyrus” addresses pansexuality and debuted at #10 in the UK and #14 on the Hot 100.
2 24KGOLDN f/ IANN DIOR Mood 27 1660.5
Following the streaming success of “Valentino” last year and reaching the top 15 on Alternative radio earlier this year with “City Of Angels”, the singer and rapper has exploded onto the Pop chart in the last few weeks. He has also hit #1 or #2 on numerous charts around the world as well as the Rock and Alternative songs chart in Billboard. He also shows up on the #25 song by Clean Bandit “Tick Tock” this week.
3 CALVIN HARRIS f/ THE WEEKND Over Now 39 1482.1
I would have expected this this easy-going slice of soul to make a bigger initial splash based on the caliber of the collaboration and The Weeknd’s radio dominance this year. However it is just at #25 on the Pop chart and debuted in the 30’s in the UK and on the Hot 100.
4 DEFTONES Ohms 20 1444.45
This is the Sacramento alt-metal band’s first release since 2016 and already is at #20 on the BR250. This is their 14th song to reach the Rock top 40.
5 BTS Dynamite 21 1356.5
6 BLACKPINK & SELENA GOMEZ Ice Cream 91 946.25
Back to back K-Pop. The Hot 100 #1 by BTS is pure vintage boy band while Blackpink’s collab with Selena Gomez is a more current sound pop-hip-hop hybrid. “Dynamite” had the largest 1st day global streaming of 2020 with close to 8 million plays. “Ice Cream”, co-written by Gomez, Ariana Grande, and Victoria Monet is chock full of double entendres. Both songs are in the top 25 on Pop radio.
7 DUA LIPA f/ MADONNA & MISSY ELLIIOTT Levitating 13 932.3
Another month, another Dua Lipa song in the Trending top 10. The remix is top 10 on the Dance chart but the question is what will be the next radio single in the U.S. after “Break My Heart”.
8 BASTILLE F/ GRAHAM COXON What You Gonna Do??? 6 890.05
All of last month’s top 10 have lost points in the tracking period this month except Bastille who only drops one position. The only other songs in this week’s top 25 to still see gains from last month are “WAP at #12 and Betty” at #22. “What You Gona Do???” is currently top 10 Alternative and top 25 Adult Alternative.
9 BIFFY CLYRO Space 42 874
The Scottish band’s 9th album, “A Celebration of Endings” debuted at #1 on the UK album chart in August, their 3rd in a row. This ballad was written by Steve Mac who has had a longstanding relationship with Westlife and has written songs for artist like Pink, Demi Lovato and Ed Sheeran.
10 SMASHING PUMPKINS Cyr 108 844
This mid-tempo electro-pop song just entered the Alternative top 40 and previews the band’s 11th album.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/POS ON BR250/POINTS
1 KYLIE MINOGUE Say Something 3 3427.95
The lead single from her 19th studio album “Disco”, surprisingly eclipses the surge of Taylor Swift’s “Cardigan” to take the top spot on the Trending chart for August. Both songs were added to 29 charts, but Kylie sneaks out the win. Both also vault into the top 5 on this week’s BR250. In the UK ‘Something’ moves up to #11 on the airplay chart.
2 TAYLOR SWIFT Cardigan 5 3388.25
Swift can claim a victory however as 8 songs from the surprise album “Folklore” make it into the top 60 on the Trending chart. The album is a departure for her, introspective with an Alternative-Folk bent to it, written and recorded during the pandemic. In addition to oft producer Jack Antonoff she enlisted Aaron Dessner of the Alternative band The National as producers.
3 BEABADOOBEE Care 10 2267.2
Like going back to the mid-90’s and listening to Veruca Salt and Liz Phair. Not necessarily a bad thing. After 5 EP releases her debut album “Fake It Flowers” is on track for an October release.
4 TAYLOR SWIFT f/ BON IVER Exile 17 2128
I have never been a fan of Swift or Bon Iver but I will admit that I’ll be giving this and other tracks from the album more time to digest. This debuted at #6 on Billboard’s Hot 100 last week, 1 of 13 songs from the album that debuted in the top 50 (“Cardigan” at #1 and “The 1” at #4). Speaking of not a fan, the current methodology for the Hot 100 makes me a little bit crazy but I am certainly an old school guy.
5 DUA LIPA Hallucinate 4 1791.4
Radio single #4 is another Pop confection from the unstoppable Lipa. Already top 5 on the UK airplay chart, I’m sure it will follow suit in the States. She shows up again at #34 on the J. Balvin song “Un Dia (One Day)”. Her remix of “Levitating” with Madonna and Missy Elliott, just released, should impact on the next BR250 and bring the song back into the top 50 (or higher, it originally peaked at #44). A remix album is lsated for release at the end of the month.
6 KYGO & TINA TURNER What’s Love Got To Do With It 13 1611.3
Now this remix seems to me to be a waste of time. I get that he brought Whitney Houston back from the dead on last year’s “Higher Love” but at least her original version was not well known, appearing on the Japanese version of the album, ”I’m Your Baby Tonight”. This modernizes the song slightly but to me is a big yawn.
7 BASTILLE F/ GRAHAM COXON What You Gonna Do??? 33 1586.1
The rockier edge on the latest Bastille single is a welcome change of pace and Alternative radio is responding, already in the top 20.
8 BILLIE EILISH My Future 37 1521.2
The song starts in familiar Eilish territory and then goes full out “Miss Chatelaine” lounge. It debuted at #6 on the current Hot 100 chart. It is the second animated video on the chart, after “Hallucinate”. It is not vaulting up the airplay charts, so we’ll see how this one plays out. Her song “ilomilo” is also getting Alternative play right now.
9 KATY PERRY Smile 14 1487.35
The title song from her upcoming album is all over TV, featured in the current crop of Target commercials.
10 TROYE SIVAN Easy 41 1392.8
Australian Sivan had released a trio of songs from his upcoming EP, ”In A Dream”. They seem to like him in New Zealand. “Take Yourself Home” reached #9 this spring and this hit #11.

July 2020
Pos./ARTIST/song/BR250 Pos./Points
1 HARRY STYLES Watermelon Sugar 3 1399.9
Appropriately a song that sounds like a breezy summer wind is the #1 trending song of July. The latest single from Styles that is showing up in top 10’s around the world was already a Beyond Radio hit when the album “Fine Line” was 1st released. It reached #22 in December of last year and is now at #3 on the BR250.
2 THE KILLERS My Own Soul’s Warning 7 1391.75
The 2nd official radio single from the Las Vegas band is already in the BR250 top 10 at #7 and top 15 at Alternative radio. It has that epic Killers sound, awash in synths and a driving beat.
3 BRING ME THE HORIZON Parasite Eve 52 1318.15
You never know what to expect from this UK band. This song starts with African inspired chanting then goes into a sinister half-rap half-sung verse backed by ominous industrial flourishes and then an explosive chorus. In September 2018 they reached #24 on the BR250 with “Mantra”.
4 JOEL CORRY f/ MNEK Head & Heart 69 1129.4
Corry rose to fame on an MTV reality series in the UK that was a spin-off of “Jersey Shore”. In 2019 he reached the UK top 10 with “Sorry” after it was featured in another UK reality series “Love Island”. This is his third single to reach the UK top 20.
5 BLACKPINK How You Like That 62 975.4
The K-Pop girl group have received a number of Guinness World Records for this new single including the most viewed video on YouTube in a 24-hour period. Haha, How you like that?
6 CAMELPHAT f/ YANNIS Hypercolour 76 965.4
This UK duo first appeared on Beyond Radio in late 2017 with “Cola” that peaked at #37 on the BR250 and made the top 20 in England. They have since reached the top 100 at Beyond Radio 6 times and just missed with a seventh, “Breathe” a #104 peak. This pulsating dance track )with Yannis, the vocalist from Foals) will be the first to reach my personal chart.
7 DOVES Carousels 26 888.8
This ethereal indie rock trio from the UK had a #1 song on my personal chart in 2002 with “Caught By The River” and look to make their first appearance in my weekly top 150 since 2009 with the latest release “Prisoners” This moody percussive track should also follow suit.
8 NOTHING BUT THIEVES Real Love Song 60 868.4
The second song to preview their upcoming album “Moral Panic” is a sweeping, synth-y mid-tempo ballad that reminds me of the Cure and other late 80’s bands. Once again the soaring vocals of lead singer Conor Mason take it to another level.
9 JESSIE WARE Save A Kiss 8 834.45
Her fourth album “What’s Your Pleasure?” just debuted on the UK album chart at #3 and this week 5 songs appear in the BR250. Ware has eclipsed the #9 peak of “Spolight” earlier this year by moving to #8 with this breathy disco nugget. The synths evoke a more subdued Moroder feel than Donna Summer’s “I Feel Love”.
10 ERIC CHURCH Stick That In Your Country Song 136 777.55
On an almost opposite end of the spectrum, the most adventurous artist in country music previews an upcoming album with a socially conscious and relevant single. Co-written by prolific songwriter Jeffrey Steele, this undoubtedly with bring him back to my top 10, marking his seventh appearance (including 3 #1’s). It is a true rocker that I’m sure has already stirred up controversy at Country radio. Hard to believe this was written prior to the pandemic and racial tensions of late. And in an unusual turn, he did not assist in the writing of this.
11 RASCAL FLATTS How They Remember You 104 711.25
Jeffrey Steele is responsible for a number of this band’s big hits. They just recently cancelled their farewell tour for obvious reasons. A new EP is coming out at the end of July with a possible album to follow.
12 KANYE WEST f/ TRAVIS SCOTT Wash Us In The Blood 133 700.6
The latest presidential candidate preview’s his 10th studio album “God’s Country” with the second song here with industrial influence. And like #10, plenty of social commentary.

June 2020
1 LADY GAGA & ARIANA GRANDE Rain On Me 1 4814.45
With the debut of “Chromatica”, 12 of those songs make the Trending Top 100 for mid-June, including the top 2. The album also debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200, with Jimmy Buffet’s latest release coming in at #2! The strength of ‘Rain’ catapults it into the top position on the BR250 as well. Her collaborations don’t hurt either.
2 LADY GAGA f/ BLACKPINK Sour Candy 28 1555
3 KATY PERRY Daisies 11 1206.85
It’s an all-female trending top 5. It’s been a year since Perry was in the BR250 top 10 (#1 with “Never Really Over”) and she just misses it at #11 this week on the main chart.
4 MICKEY GUYTON Black Like Me 71 1080.5
The Country singer debuts the timely “Black Like Me” and its release helps her other current single, “What Are You Gonna Tell Her?” move into the top 100 on the BR250 just behind at #75.
5 ELLIE GOULDING Power 42 1035.7
The English songstress interpolates Dua Lipa’s “Be The One” on the 5th single to precede her July album “Brightest Blue”. David Paich of Toto gets a songwriting credit on this one.
6 BIFFY CLYRO Tiny Indoor Fireworks 52 956.3
This is the third song in the last 4 months by the Brit band to make the trending top 10 and to reach the BR250’s top 60.
7 WEEZER Hero 15 921.65
COVID songs abound and this is one of them. A second preview into the upcoming “Van Weezer” album, after last year’s “End of The Game”.
8 TOPIC & A7S Breaking Me 27 916.7
This is currently the #3 song on the European airplay chart. It’s driving me crazy, part of the song sounds like another I can’t place.
9 HARRY STYLES Watermelon Sugar 24 900.05
With its release as a radio single this song moves back into the top 25 on the main chart. It peaked at #22 in December an should surpass that on the next chart. This one sounds like a summer song.
10 LADY GAGA Babylon 114 805.8
11 TRAVIS A Ghost 116 798.6
Back after 4 years, strummy as ever, but that leads to an effervescent chorus. Not a bad return at all.
12 SHINEDOWN Atlas Falls 41 790
This uplifting rock ballad was originally recorded during the sessions for the 2012 “Amaryllis”. It was released in March to raise money for COVID relief and has so far raised 300K.
13 TERRACE MARTIN f/ DENZEL CURRY, DAYLYT, KAMASI WASHINGTON & G PERICO Pig Feet 129 750.2
Producer and oft collaborator with Kendrick Lamar released this song (like Mickey Guyton) in response to police brutality.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/OVERALL IN TOP 500/POINTS
1 THE 1975 If You’re Too Shy (Let Me Know) 13 1884.9
Strangely all 3 of the 1975’s albums have gone to #1 in the UK but this is the highest charting single on the UK singles chart (#14). The next album, “Notes On A Conditional Form” is coming out on May 22. They have released 7 of the songs from the album already, starting last year with the atypical “People”. Currently “Me & You Together Song” is in the Alternative top 20.
2 THE ROLLING STONES Living In A Ghost Town 17 1645.35
There are a plethora of Covid-19 related songs that have been released in the last few weeks. This puts the Stones in good form; sort of bluesy reggae-rock. There is also a pop remix by Alok that is not bad.
3 MARSHMELLO & HALSEY Be Kind 65 1066.25
I have not been a fan of Halsey, but this mid-tempo pop song will be her second to reach my top 100. It has just reached the Pop top 25.
4 MEGAN THEE STALLION f/ BEYONCE Savage 28 1062.85
The new Beyonce remix has brought this song to #2 on the Hot 100. This is her first Beyond Radio top 100 song, this week entering at #28.
5 EVERYTHING EVERYTHING In Birdsong 79 814.6
This avant-garde UK outfit has been around since 2010. This is currently #1 on the Underground 100 chart. They were not intending to release the song yet, but it felt appropriate for the time. They have reached the BR250 numerous times over the years.
6 THE KILLERS Fire In Bone 95 743.8
While “Caution” sits at #2 on the BR250, this second preview into the new album cracks the top 100 at #95. The 80’s influence on this song is evident. During the verses it reminds me of the Cure (though not as dark), but the soaring chorus is anything but Cure-like. It’s a nice mix of quirk and accessibility.
7 BILLY TALENT I Beg To Differ (This Will Get Better) 74 728.15
I’m not sure this was supposed to be a coronavirus song but it certainly falls into the mold. The Toronto rockers are feeling positive on this driving, energetic song. All 3 of their latest singles have made the BR250.
8 OASIS Don’t Stop 126 727.6
Released April 30, this demo from the mid-2000’s has a coronavirus backstory. Noel Gallagher found this on a blank cd and thought it was lost forever. Because of the lockdown he was going through old things like so many of us. Ironically, I was looking for a song from 2000 for my personal chart playlist and it was not available online anywhere. I found it on a blank cd in my basement. More on that in my next blog entry.
9 EVANESCENCE Wasted On You 88 716.2
This is a welcome return from the band after the lackluster remake of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain”. It debuts ion the BR250 at #88 this week. It should be an easy top 10 for me and potential chart-topper.
10 AVRIL LAVIGNE We Are Warriors 103 656.4
Re-recorded final track from her album “Head Above Water”, proceeds go to Project HOPE. The original was about her own health struggles. Another charity song sits at #20. A great remake of the Foo Fighters song “Times Like These”, featuring more than 25 mostly UK artists. It reached #1 on the UK singles chart in its second week on the chart.

16 FIONA APPLE Shameika 73 590.35
Apple recently hit #4 on the Billboard 200 album chart with “Fetch The Bolt Cutters”, her first album in 8 years. It is a singular record, very experimental in nature. 10 songs from the album appear on charts from the Beyond Radio personal chart panel, 5 of those in the Trending 100 this week. This one is #30 on the current Mediabase AAA chart.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/OVERALL IN TOP 500/POINTS
1 THE KILLERS Caution 3 3049.55
The first single from the upcoming “Imploding The Mirage” is currently #2 on the Alternative chart. At Beyond Radio the song has doubled the number of charts since March, up to 60. The band got an assist from Lindsey Buckingham on this track.
2 DUA LIPA Break My Heart 14 2499.8
No surprise that the latest single release is making a big impact. The song is currently moving up through the top 20 on the Pop chart. The album “Future Nostalgia” was released at the end of March so 3 other tracks off the album are seeing impact (Levitating” #11, “Love Again” #30 and “Hallucinate” #32) in addition to “Physical” #17, which spends a third month with gains and is currently tracking as the #1 song of April.
3 NOTHING BUT THIEVES Is Everybody Going Crazy? 25 1840.75
This is a great return for the UK band. They have reached my top 10 5 times since 2015, with an additional 4 songs reaching my top 40. Interestingly their biggest U.S. hit “Trip Switch” only reached #22 on my chart.
4 THE WEEKND In Your Eyes 21 1768.25
While “Blinding Lights” hits #1 on U.S. Pop radio and continues in the top 5 at Beyond Radio, this slice of 80’s style sophisti-pop including the requisite sax solo (think Simply Red), is moving up in the top 30. The Weeknd collaborated again with Max Martin, who co-wrote “Blinding Lights” and “Can’t Feel My Face”. Martin, as a songwriter, has had 23 songs reach #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since the late 90’s, starting with Britney Spears ‘Bay One More Time”.
5 LITTLE MIX Break Up Song 69 1051.45
More 80’s synth-pop influence on the latest by the UK girl group. This is their 15th top 10 song in Britain since 2011. They won the 2011 installment of “X Factor”. Their first single, “Cannonball”, a cover of a Damien Rice song and sung on the show, went to #1.
6 LADY GAGA Stupid Love 2 1033.8
Gaga’s album “Chromatica” was scheduled to be released last Friday but has been postponed due to the corona virus outbreak. The song debuted at #5 on the Billboard Hot 100 last month, making it her 12th appearance in the top 5. Guess who co-wrote the song with her. Yes it was Max Martin.
7 JESSIE WARE Spotlight 9 954
This is proving to be her biggest song at Beyond Radio. Last month it was #5 on this chart and right now looking like it could make the top 10 this month. Though she has had 3 top 10 albums in the UK she only managed to reach the singles top 40 twice, both in 2014.
8 HAIM The Steps 27 908.15
This California female sibling trio has had 4 songs reach the Beyond Radio top 100 in the last 9 months. Each of these has had a distinctly different sound. “Summer Girls” had jazz elements, “Now I’m In It” an electro-pop vibe, “Hallelujah” a folk ballad and this song the late 70’s breezy quality of a Fleetwood Mac song.
9 AVA MAX Kings & Queens 38 897.55
The Euro-disco sound of this song and the success of her singles over the last 2 years would indicate that she is from somewhere on that side of the Atlantic. Actually Max was born in Milwaukee and raised in Virginai, though she is of Albanian descent.
10 BIFFY CLYRO End Of 45 845.9
This Scottish band’s 9th album “A Celebration of Endings” is coming out this summer. This is the second preview into the album, last month “Instant History” was #4 on this chart. This one veers towards their harder-edged side.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/POINTS/OVERALL IN TOP 500
1 LADY GAGA Stupid Love 2518.1 10
No surprise that a new dance pop nugget from Lady Gaga would be the #1 trending song. What is encouraging is that it is yet another song that bucks the EDM sound of the last 5 years. I guess it could be described as retro but it also sounds fresh and fun. Already top 10 on Hot AC and top 15 Pop.
2 BILLIE EILISH No Time To Die 1715.2 5
As a complete 180 degree contrast, this James Bond theme is as somber and downtrodden as the title would indicate at the start. It does go into movie theme territory in the second verse. Doubtful this is going to be pitched to radio in the U.S. It is however getting airplay in the UK and Europe. It has made the top 10 on both official charts.
3 THE STROKES Bad Decisions 1280.3 28
The opening riff of this 7 years in the making single sounds like it was ripped right out of 1982. The chorus of course adds the signature Strokes-y sound. This is currently in the AAA top 10 and Alternative top 25.
4 BIFFY CLYRO Instant History 1000.8 45
This is the 1st preview into the Scottish band’s 9th album since 2001, “A Celebration Of Endings”, that will be released in May. They have had marginal success on U.S. rock radio while 4 of their last 5 albums have reached the UK top 3.
5 JESSIE WARE Spotlight 925.7 71
The latest single from the British songstress is a laid-back but throbbing disco nugget, reminiscent of Lisa Stansfield. The album “What’s My Pleasure?” is scheduled for release in early June.
6 SAM SMITH To Die For 881.55 20
I’m not sure what to think of this song yet. At first, I was not even going to give it a second listen, just another depressing tune. Listening to it now, it might grow on me. And certainly, it has dance remixes that would play well on Pop radio.
7 THE WEEKND After Hours 864.5 68
The dominance of “Blinding Lights” has been evident on the BR250 the last few months. It eclipsed the 1st single “Heartless” here, though they are currently both in the U.S. Pop top 10. This new single has a bit more of an alternative bent to it. He is definitely a singular artist.
8 PEARL JAM Superblood Wolfmoon 799.5 42
Eddie Vedder and company replace last month’s #3 “Dance Of The Clairvoyants” with this more PJammy follow up.
9 SZA f/ JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE The Other Side 744.1 103
It seems inevitable that a Trolls sequel would include Justin Timberlake and here we are. A nice slice of R&B/Pop. This is SZA’s 6th R&B top 10 since 2017.

POS/ARTIST/SONG/POINTS/OVERALL IN TOP 500
1 DUA LIPA Physical 2193.85 7
Another month, another Dua Lipa song in the top 5. This is the official 2nd radio single, though I think “Future Nostalgia” would sound great on the radio. I hear shades of Patti Labelle’s “New Attitude” in this one.
2 GROUPLOVE Deleter 1395.45 13
About 10 years into their career, Grouplove are back with this top 20 Alternative single, a frenetic stomper.
3 PEARL JAM Dance Of The Clairvoyants 1381.2 19
Electronics and a groove! What’s happening? I think I like it. It’s nice to see bands well into their career take some risks. Another 3 decade old band, Green Day, are showing a new side as well with “Oh Yeah” and “Meet Me On The Roof”.
4 THE 1975 Me & You Together Song 1311.6 15
I’m sorry but the 1975 kinds of bores me. Maybe it’s his voice. This song is kind of jangly so exhibits a bit of a retro feel.
5 TAME IMPALA Lost In Yesterday 1191.8 11
Kevin Parker has a similar lilting vocal quality. Maybe the psychedelic nature of his music raises this above the 1975. After 4 singles in 2019, the album “The Slow Rush’ (an appropriate title), came out on Feb. 14. Surprisingly “Patience” is not on the album.
6 HAYLEY WILLIAMS Simmer 1141.85 29
I’ve been hot and cold on Paramore during the years but this is a nice change of pace for Williams. The smoldering single has a Kate Bush vibe to it.

January 2020
At this point in the month The Weeknd could snag #1 for January based on his trending points. “Adore You” does have a shot as nothing else in the top 10 has enough strength to compete. Harry Styles is still seeing 3 songs in the top 25 and has few other tunes from the new album “Fine Line” making some noise on a few personal charts. He continues to follow an interesting path as evidenced by the song “Treat People With Kindness”.
While Dua Lipa’s “Don’t Start Now” is starting to lose points she remains in the top 3 trending songs with the next release “Future Nostalgia”. Over the last year I feel she has made song choices that are thankfully a bit outside the current pop crop, creating a singular identity.
At #4 is the leftfield Grimes song “4 AEM”, an ethereal chant set to alt beats that gets more frenetic as the song goes on. In a similar left of center vein “In The Afternoon”, the return of MGMT, is much less mainstream then the place they started from in 2007.
