Beyond Radio is the place where music discovery and music nostalgia collide. It is your one-stop source for playlists, music charts, remembrances and recommendations. Our Podcast and music therapy playlists combine elements of nostalgia and discovery, while my blog entries reflect on our musical past through the lens of my personal charts from decades past. I weave a story that includes the connection between artists, chart facts and personal anecdotes that hopefully conjure a connection to the soundtrack of your own life. The current charts and playlists are updated monthly or bi-monthly (bi-weekly for the BR250) and are curated based on a passionate audience that produce their own personal charts weekly.
It certainly seems that this is the year of Dua Lipa. Her 3 radio singles are all still in the top 15, with “Break My Heart” moving up to #4 and “Don’t Start Now” falling to #12 in it’s 27th week.
3 2 THE KILLERS Caution
Currently #1 on the Alternative radio chart, this song surpasses what “The Man”, lead single from their 2017 album “Wonderful Wonderful” achieved. It stalled at #2 at Alt radio and #3 on Beyond Radio.
2 3 LADY GAGA Stupid Love
Both the new Gaga album and the new Killers album are scheduled for release on May 29. Gaga’s “Chromatica” was scheduled for April 10 but moved back because of the pandemic.
14 4 DUA LIPA Break My Heart
Michael Hutchence and Andrew Farriss of INXS are credited as songwriters since it samples “Need You Tonight”.
4 5 THE WEEKND Blinding Lights
5 months in the top 5, like “Don’t Start Now”, these will compete for song of the year.
5 6 DIXIE CHICKS Gaslighter
Another delayed album co-produced by Jack Antonoff of the bands Bleachers and Fun. He has worked with a disparate array of artists, including Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and St. Vincent.
21 7 THE WEEKND In Your Eyes
This song is oh so 80’s, especially with that sax solo. My favorite from the album so far.
6 8 DOJA CAT Say So
Another retro slice, this time the 90’s, the song was co-written and produced by Dr. Luke, a man with a lengthy resume over the last 2 decades. He often collaborates with Max Martin, co-writer and producer of the previous Weeknd song.
10 9 TAME IMPALA Lost In Yesterday
This peaked at #7 here in February and now is top 10 on the Adult Alternative and Alternative charts helping to keep it’s momentum going.
25 10 NOTHING BUT THIEVES Is Everybody Going Crazy?
An aptly titled and lyrically appropriate song for our time, one of the best parts of this song is Conor Mason’s falsetto. Actually, his voice employs 3 different qualities on this song.
9 11 JESSIE WARE Spotlight
8 12 DUA LIPA Don’t Start Now
12 13 PEARL JAM Dance Of The Clairvoyants
195 14 TWENTY ONE PILOTS Level Of Concern
An out of the box hit (and most added song on our panel during the last 2 weeks) for the Columbus, Ohio duo. Written in response to the pandemic with a portion of the proceeds going to charity, it is the poppiest song they have ever released to radio. if you refer back to the 2nd episode of my podcast, their song “Not Today” fits the mode in a huge way.
7 15 HARRY STYLES Adore You
35 16 GLASS ANIMALS Your Love (Deja Vu)
17 17 PEARL JAM Superblood Wolfmoon
15 18 TAYLOR SWIFT The Man
20 19 THE STROKES Bad Decisions
38 20 AVA MAX Kings & Queens
18 21 BILLIE EILISH Everything I Wanted
13 22 SZA f/ JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE The Other Side
19 23 OZZY OSBOURNE & ELTON JOHN Ordinary Man
30 24 HARRY STYLES Falling
The 4th single from his current album to reach the Top 25 here, this gorgeous lament is destined to go to #1 on my personal chart.
