On the Oct. 24th chart “Starboy” has an explosive week and reaches #1 in its 4th week. Not quite as quick as Justin Timberlake last spring but The Weeknd may rival the total charts as he’s up to 81 so far. Kings of Leon enter the top 10 with an 11-9 move while Bruno Mars leaps 41-13. Also entering the top 25 this week are the international hit “Say You Won’t Let Go” by James Arthur jumps 33-23 and Hailee Steinfeld’s U.S. pop hit “Starving” up 28-19. She’s also starting to see success in the UK and Australia.
Outside the top 25 Ghost’s “Square Hammer” is getting some love, top 5 on 9 charts, including 3 #1’s. This before it has reached the rock radio top 10 as it seems poised to do. Here is moves 50-29. The organ riff recalls the early 90’s alternative “Madchester” sound made famous by bands like Inspiral Carpets, The Charlatans UK and Happy Mondays (I miss that era of alt rock). Employed here it is a nice contrast to the hard rock of this Swedish band.
The big 3 moves into the top 100 are Lady Gaa’s “Million Reasons” 302-60, Bastille’s “Send Them Off!” 110-62 (sounds like another hit to me), and another by the surprise (to me) hitmakers of 2016 The Chainsmokers, 138-70 with “All We Know”.
There was a glitch with the most added page that is now fixed. You can now see the correct adds and the position the song is on the full chart. Besides the aforementioned songs others getting nice add totals this week include Niall Horan, John Legend, Emeli Sande and Robbie Williams.
